Founded in 1928, Ovington Cricket Club is a vibrant community cricket club run by volunteers, based on the Little Knavesmire in York. Our club welcomes people of all ages and abilities, from juniors to seniors, and is proud to be a hub for local cricketing passion and community spirit. Founded in 1928, Ovington Cricket Club is a vibrant community cricket club run by volunteers, based on the Little Knavesmire in York. Our club welcomes people of all ages and abilities, from juniors to seniors, and is proud to be a hub for local cricketing passion and community spirit. We are a club of more than 200 members with players aged from 6 to 70!
We take pride in making cricket enjoyable, inclusive and accessible as possible enabling people to learn and grow through this traditional competitive team sport.
This autumn, we have levelled and re-seed the outfield, improved drainage and soil quality. This is aimed at making our field more robust and hard wearing so it can cope better with the effects of more rainfall.
This work is quite urgent as without it, we risk losing the ability to host matches and training sessions, especially for our junior teams.
Also our current ground maintenance equipment is outdated and difficult to use. We are keen to reduce our carbon footprint by switching to more sustainable options. This involves: Replacing our existing equipment with electric options, make equipment easier to use for a wider range of volunteers, thereby enabling wider participation from the community This investment will help us maintain the ground more efficiently and sustainably, while encouraging more members to get involved in upkeep
While we are a well-managed and thriving club, primarily supported by membership fees and match-day income, we currently lack the resources to carry out these improvements as swiftly as we believe is needed. This is why we believe a crowdfunding campaign will help
